Only posted J&S because Pitbull is no longer in business and J&S is made in USA. I try to buy from small US companies when I can instead of supporting chinese sweat shops.
I have a J&S in the big shop and the HF in the garage. Owned them both about 12 years. The J&S has had 2 of their P.O.S. bottle jacks fail. I've never had to even bleed the HF in all that time. I get a chuckle out of these threads as well.
Edit to add: I think J&S changed suppliers recently on their bottle jacks so that might not be an issue anymore, I know nothing of the new ones.

I think my Pitbull has a China bottle jack as well. I've had to add oil and bleed it in the past. When I have by bike on it and locked out, I don't have to worry about a weld that a 12 year chinese kid made on their 17 hour in the sweatshop. I'd pay more for a Pittlbull or J&S if it had a Made in USA jack on it but you cheap bastages won't give US manufacturers chance to compete.
1. It doesnt matter how much your bike cost. If its a 45,000 cvo or a 3,000$ beat to hell street glide that was wrecked burned and spray painted. Jacks dont care.
2. Harbor freight jacks have earned a pretty good reputation. They have earned it. Just because something is more expensive doesnt mean its better. My shop makes top of line name brand premium and also makes cheap knockoff version. Its the exact same thing different packaging. I also use ryobi tools that I have dropped off the top of car and have used the mess out of them. They have never failed me. I also use Milwaukee makita and even top of the line festool.
3. where I work we use some the same motor brands as I have seen on harbor freights stuff. I guarantee they run more than any motor anywhere.at my shop they shut down for July fourth week and Christmas week other than they run 24/7 save a day or two. They run in extreme dust conditions and vibration. Not saying that the jacks are made of same quality.
4. people want to justify overpaying for something. Especially the casual guys who dont use it all the time. If I owned a shop I would consider a pro model.
I have to laugh when people spend the money for a Harley-Davidson and buy at 10 cent jack. It's even funnier when they don't realize their 10 cent jack is a throw-away and want to fix it.
My pitbull lift is 20 years old and still going strong. No worries about my bike on it or having to tie it down. Lift and work.
Heading down to the basement to see why my J&S won't pump up all the way...while the mechanism is a little better design...it has the same crappy "made in china" jack as the harbor freight unit...

But if you pay more for the jack its better. The made in china doesnt matter.
Ever hear of supporting US businesses when you have the opportunity. You'd think people buy an American icon motorcycle that it would mean something to them.

If my bike was an American made chassis with a cheap Chinese engine that had a 50% failure rate within the first couple years, I'd bitch about it as well.
I buy American boots because they may cost double but I get 3 or 4 more times the wear from them, I buy American clothing for the same reason. I don't mind paying more for quality products that justify their price. However I don't feel I got that with my J&S jack, they charged American prices but stuck me with a shitty Chinese bottle jack that wasn't as dependable as the one on my H.F. lift.... If they want to charge a premium price and brag about American made then put an American made bottle jack on the lift and yes, they still make them. Carry it and the receipt back to Harbour. Show them. When I got mine, did not like how it dropped. Showed them. They told me obviously it was the hydraulic jack.
I could get another in the box or they would drop ship just the bottle.
