Sticking with HD gives you more versatility if you do any traveling and have any issues. You will have no issue finding a dealer to help you out and in most cases if you let them know you are traveling they will sometimes get you in and take care of your issue and get you back on the road. Indian has a good product however I don't think they carry the same comroderie that Harley brings to the table. As far as choice between the street glide and road glide it really is a matter of whether you like the fixed fairing or not. Roadglides tend to be better on the highway than the street glides as far as wind pushing bike around in the wind. I have an aquantence that owns both and prefers the roadglide for touring and the street glide for shorter day rides. It's all about preferences and what you want out of the bike. Good luck and enjoy whatever you end up with.
With the exception of the added weight and not being able to firmly plant my feet at a stop, I absolutely love the transition from the Dyna to the Road Glide. Installed Cobra slip-ons a few days ago and got an Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage 1 air cleaner kit.
Congrats on the RG Standard; it's what I have put the most miles on in my current stable.
Fairings may very well be a personal choice but have you ever seen a faired racing bike with the fairing mounted on the handlebars?
Sold my 2017 Dyna Street Bob about a month ago because I want to move up to a bagger. Not in a rush because I've got some renovations that the wife wants us to do on the house. I recently test rode a '20 Indian Chieftain, '21 HD Road Glide Special and Street Glide Special. Waiting to test ride the Indian Challenger. So far I'm leaning toward purchasing a used (2019-2020) Road Glide Special but won't be ready till about Oct-Dec. Got an email from local Harley stating zero down with zero interest on new 2021 models. Again, I'm not looking to make any major purchases until after home renovations. Figure that'll give me time to save up and use the $13k I got for selling my Dyna. Any recommendations from the group?
