BTW…I’m not bersting the Baker transmission. But, their top ratio of the Grudge box only reduces the 6th gear RPMs by 250. That’s a lot of $/rom. Although, I like the concept of a larger top gear…I looked into it when I had my trike…but figured 250 wasn’t worth the whole expense…if it was 500 I’d have done it.
I've always felt this was one of the best things I did to my RKC. Dropped RPM in all gears and I have no problem getting started solo or two-up. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/gener...xperience.html
Maybe a consideration for the OP?
Sounds to me like you need an overdrive transmission to accomplish your goals. I can confidently recommend Baker. I installed a DD6 into Reaper, which gives me the factory standard 1 - 5 gears + a 6th gear with a .86:1 overdrive. At 75 mph, the engine is turning around 2800 RPM. 3000 RPM gets me to 80 mph, and at 85 mph, she's spinning around 3200 RPM.
I took a closer look at the DD7 specs, and it doesn't have an overdrive after all.. I just assumed (and, we all know how that usually works out ) that the extra gear was an overdrive, like the DD6. So, it wouldn't drop the RPMs in top gear at highway speeds.
I did the conversion on my 06 Deluxe. I used zippers performance chain drive kits. You can match what you have now or whatever you want. I like my chain drive it's not dirty at all and you don't need to adjust it every thousand miles. And I like the looks, to me, it looks like a Harley is supposed to look.
