Default A bit breezy today...

Well I tried, I really did but, 30-40 mph wind gusts + 2 wheels does not = fun. After about an hour I'd had more than enough.

I hear ya.
I'm sure someone will pop in here and let us all know they rode up the funnel of a tornado once, but for me, once it hits a certain point, it's not fun anymore. Like ridin in the rain, I'll do it if I has to, but I typically won't start out in those conditions.

It's a whole nuther level if the wind is turbulent too, seemingly changing direction constantly. I can recall riding and having the wind change so drastically that for a second, I had to consciously fight it to point my head in the direction I wanted. It was like a mini-microburst on my left shoulder. Was I overpowered by a gust of wind? No. But I wasn't expecting it, and it got the jump on me.

We were riding across Tampa Bay on one of the bridges and the wind was blowing hard 90-degrees from the direction we were heading. Guy in the back commented how strange it looked that ALL our bikes were listing to one side across the bridge to counter the wind! I know I was leaning hard to counter the wind, but it would've been cool to see!
But alas, I'm sure we'll soon find out, "if a change in wind direction affects us that much, maybe we shouldn't be riding motorcycles." (cross-post points?)

I’m with you. Cycling should be enjoyable and there are times when, if it’s not, time to head home

Right there with you. I ride because I enjoy it.

I'll never forget riding through Palm Springs on my way from Los Angeles to Phoenix several years ago. My buddy was in front of me and looked to be at a constant 45-ish degree angle just to keep the bike going straight. I was doing the same thing and thinking if this gust stops abruptly, we're screwed. Was also thinking that the comfort and reassurance of my truck would be real nice right about then. Add to it the blowing sand hitting the neck and face and it was about 90 minutes straight of misery. The insult to injury is we had to deal with it coming back 4 days later. That sand did a number on my black powder coated forks too.

If you get caught in that crap, you just deal as best you can. But to set out knowing that's what it's going to be...no thanks.

On the way home on the Interstate I passed a few road signs warning of construction ahead. They broke up the wind and caused it to beat my head side to side 3-4 times so fast I had no time to react. In all the years I've been riding I can say I've never experienced anything quite like that. Don't care to again...
