I've ridden for hours in the rain with a half helmet, the visor down, and goggles
a fairing helps....a cats and dogs hard rain will have me pulling over and waiting a few minutes
Similar to me. Half helmet, good fitting rain goggles/glasses in prescription lens configuration, and a TALL windshield. All with Rain-X applied beforehand.
Very heavy rain, I pull in under something. I have learned my lesson on riding in biblical rains.
I wear a full face most of the time. I just pop it open a little bit to help it not fog up so bad. Rain X on the shield works wonders. Fly racing dual sport helmet. I have a DR650 as well so I just use the same helmet.
Yea...that rain HURTS at speed! lol I switched to a FF for cold weather riding, then I'd wear my half when it warmed up. On one road trip, I decided to wear the FF...WOW...what a difference in less fatigue at the end of the day! Now, I rarely wear my half. It took some getting used to at first, but I'm comfortable in it now.
Just bought an HJC carbon fiber modular and put comms in it so I can listen to tunes. Just yesterday, my wife added comms to her FF...I guess this years Sturgis trip will be a lot more talkie talk, in place of her wild hand signals. lol
I have been using the Simpson Outlaw Bandit for a while now in all types of weather and the only downside that I have found is that in heavy rain. Water collects in t gap between the top of the visor and the helmet. Its only a problem when you lift the visor. Water will run down the inside of the visor after you lift it. Fog is only a problem in colder weather but i usually spray RainX on my visor if I think I will get caught in the rain.
I wear a 3/4 helmet and keep a snap on face shield in my saddlebag. It's saved me many times when I've been caught in the rain and I've had no problems with fogging.
I have been considering changing to a FF helmet. Not for rain but the added protection over a 3/4 helmet.
For the money, the modular HJC IS Max 2 is hard to beat. It is also the Harley Capstone, of course you will pay $100 more the Harley logo. I'm wearing it in my signature photo.
If you like a 3/4 helmet AND want a Pinlock visor, the Nolan N40 fits the bill. It’s a full face but, with a removable chin guard. The visor is longer so for riding you really don’t need the chin guard (of course crashing is a different story)
It’s the only 3/4 helmet I know of with a Pinlock visor that won’t fog up in the cold or rain.
