Ive been looking into these comm systems as well, so the Cardo Pak talk bold jbl dou bluetooth unit (pair) is a good system? will they fit a half helmet? or do I need to order attachments for it to work? a group of us heading down south later this month & my buddy`s leading & im the last in line - we thought it might be nice to be able to communicate as we have the lesser experienced riders mixed in the middle.
You will need to order a helmet mount for half helmet. The unit comes with a mic, but that clips to your helmet. The half helmet mount had the mic mounted to a plate that clips to your helmet and the Cardo mounting bracket. Google this and check it out. I have the half helmet mount and use on both my half and 3/4 hemets.
I bought my HJC modular helmet from a local Cycle Gear store, and the sales clerk kept pushing a Bluetooth setup from Senn. Ive never considered wanting to be constantly connected to other riders, so I politely declined.
The idea that riders save up experiences and observations while riding, in order to have something interesting to say at the next stop, was like voodoo to the young clerk. Not connected? What do you do if you cant talk to your buddies?

Seems to me you'd still need speakers, some half helmets accept ear flaps, guess that's an option.
There are a couple of headset/headband type units out there but don't have any experence
