Went last year, toured the area most of the week. Spent 1 day in downtown Sturgis, had to experience it, we then spent 2 evenings -1 in downtown Sturgis and 1 at the Full Throttle. Yes, lots of bikes, but it was awesome. The saying Thunder in the hills is something I will not forget and loved the sound. The best thrill of all was our journey/ride to Sturgis from Missouri, it was awesome and just all the comraderi with fellow riders, all of us on our way to biggest biker powwow of them all. We did not go this year, wanted to check out some other rallies, planning on attending the Bike, Blues, Barbeque in Fayetteville Ark this year, plus the Missouri State Hog Rally in St Joseph. But next year, god willing, we will ride again to Sturgis, but will either go early or later to do more riding in the area, but we still want to go downtown and to a couple of the bars for some of the concerts and goings on.
I want to definitely tour the area but not with 500,000 other bikes.
Exactly. It's like the mecca of biking...the one place everybody wants to go to, and I would like to goone day too. But, I can do without 1/2 a million+ people.
I am really not into being around so many people at all much less for an extended period of time. I wish you all well who do go. Just wanted to state my peace...
Given our location (Phoenix and SoCal), it's more about the ride than the destination.....
I do want to ride there at least once. I'd also like to make the ride cross country to Daytona one day too.....

I moved from Phoenix to Daytona. Thats a hell of a bike ride.
Thats why Sturgis is my favorite, there is so much awesome riding in all directions. We usually stay around town for just a couple of days to take in Custer park, Mt Rushmore, main street, etc. Then we ride, ride and ride. Daytonia is just a big halloween party after going to Stugis, IMO, because, no place to ride to except different bars unless you go down to the keys,...the ride to and from are the best parts.
