Default Forward controls

I started another thread a bit ago in this forum about a bike sitting 6 to 7 years. Still about this bike. But different topic.

HD dealer wants $500 part and $250 service to install forward controls. That may be a going price, but I had sticker shock. I am already planning on working on the bike myself, thanks to some great advice from members in this group, so I should be expected to install forward controls myself.

Looking around online, I see prices from 160 to 500. Does anyone have a good trustworthy source for forward controls? Being new to HD, I can't weed out the crap vs the good, and would like help springboarding into good components. Obviously I don't want to spend a whole lot, but I do understand quality costs some money, so I want a good balance between the two.

The bike is a 2008 Sportster 1200N.

Just put highway pegs on your bike. You have the best of both worlds that way.

Hmmm... Didn't really consider that. Perhaps try that first. It'll be a lot cheaper if it satisfies me.

Thank you.

Thank you.
You will thank me the first time you are out riding and encounter a swarm of bees or other biting insects. The last thing you want is them flying up your pant leg because your legs are extended forward.

I'll be sure to remember to thank you when I start riding. Now I get to save money and start looking at highway pegs. I still feel foolish not thinking about it first.

I am not up on Sportsters too much anymore, but had a Super Glide with Hi Way Pegs and stock mid controls and was able to shift the stock shifter with my heel.

Yeah. I'm thinking this is what I'm gonna do. Makes more sense to at least start with the pegs and get a feel for what I like.
