If the tires on your bike are anywhere near 5 years old. Sell it because you aren't interested in riding anymore anyway.
Great philosophy...couple guys I work with have changed out tires that looked perfect tread wise but had aged out and had some dry rot on the sidewalls. Sad.
I agree with the 5-6 years before replacing the tires (and tubes) on what I call our "road bikes" or in other words bikes that will be ridden on long trips at freeway speeds.
I currently have three bikes in the garage that are not ridden very much these days that have tires over 5 years old and I will take them on local runs.
I'm really only concerned about it when I buy the tire. I don't like the idea of buying something that's already a couple years old. As long as it's only a few months old, there's little chance that it will be too old before I need to replace it from wear.
