Great write-up! I imagine the HH is quite a bit more pricey? I don't think I could take the stiffness of the HH, and I don't care for the shiny look. I'd go cowhide myself. The buckles give you a bit of size wiggle room in case your bodyweight goes up or down over the years - I'd keep 'em.
HH is 70 bucks more. My thinking is, if I remove the buckles, that will motivate me NOT to gain weight
No offence, but obviously you never had a Schott jacket on your back. Cheap ? The U.S. Wings jacket l bought was over $700 bucks the Schott almost a grand. I'm sure Fox creek makes a fine jacket So does Brooks. But a Schott, Langlitz, Arrow, Vanson, Lost Worlds and U.S. Wings awesome bespoke quality. Try on a Scott and check one out for yourself.

I do have both a Fox Creek and a Vanson. They are comparable in all respects. Neither are dress jackets which Schott is, and Ive had one of those as well.
Schott was the original but there are better jackets today for motorcycling. As far as style though and quality overall, Schott is hard to beat all across their lineup.
Yeah, I could of got any of them, like I said earlier. But something about the history and originality of Schott put them over the other ones for me. Nobody can deny their originality. I did almost go with Vanson. I spoke with them, but the wait is 4-5 months for a custom jacket that I wanted, because they didn't have the style (like the Schott that I bought) at all. They would have to make it. I saw some elements from different jackets that I was going to combine into one. I like Vanson. I had them before. Super nice quality. The one I had was a Cobra I think.
For Fox Creek, I saw them in person, but didn't own one. The style didn't appeal to me. Little things like hardware color, stitching or collar wouldn't be it for me. Nice jackets though. ****, they are all nice. For those prices, they better be!
Not to toss a kink into this thread...have several jackets and my Vanson AZ2 is my favorite by far. This being SoCal, the liner can come out when it is warm outside.
I spoke with Vanson and had the same issue, l wanted more of a casual dress jacket. I have an original Willie G from 1989 l wear on the bike. I couldn't find a Schott that fit correctly other than the WW2 bomber,l didn't want the nylon battens. It was beautiful l admit. U.S. Wings had a load of Schott jackets in stock but l'm not exactly a standard fit. Usually a 54-56 in a Jacket. I ended up with the Adventure Jacket from Sarge at U.S. wings which l had tailored. The goat skin is not as heavy as the steerhide or bullhide, but it is the second strongest leather next to kangaroo hide. I gotta admit Schott makes one beautiful jacket. In my case l need to try one on, l just can't order and hope it's right. U.S. Wings fits you,and will tailor one for you. Other than going to NYC, which is a PITA, l chose to buy from a Veteran in Ohio.
