Default All night ride - Houston/New Orleans

I just got in from New Orleans about 30 minutes ago. I left at 2:00am to come home because I was feeling too antsy to sleep. 400 miles solo on no sleep! Now I'm feeling some major insomnia. I know it was nuts, but I'll never forget it.

PS I don't think this would have been possible without my new iPod. It was great. I'll fill you guys in on all the details when I come back to life.

You picked the best time to travel the temp is only about 88 at night in the city with this high hanging over us. Went for a ride yesterday evening and the temp gauge on the bike reg. 104 at 2pm. I was thinkingof ridingthrough the French Quarter but decided to cut the ride short because of the heat. I'm not very fond of summer in New Orleans especially August.

You're right, freakdawg. The extra lights really came in handy because one of them went out, but I still felt just fine because I still had two more. The temperature was great for riding. I actually started getting too cold and had to put on my leather jacket for the majority of the ride home. I had been riding earlier that day, and the heat was brutal. I never looked at a thermometer, but I would say with confidence that it was at least in the high 90s. I rode from Gretna out to Abita Springs to check out the Abita brewery (I'm a beer nerd) and then to their pub for lunch after the tour. For anyone here who has ever tried Abita Turbodog beer, you have to try it at the brewery. I love it in the bottle, but getting it out of a brand new keg was amazingly good. After that I rode back across the causeway and through the Garden District and the French Quarter. I was in town to visit a friend (he doesn't ride) and I feel kinda bad to say it, but I had a lot more fun out riding alone for a few hours than I did all weekend doing anything else. Also, this was my first trip after doing a memory foam insert in my seat, installing Cruise Arms, and getting an iPod. They all went a long way toward making this ride comfortable. Because of the seat and cruise arms, I was able to go twice as far before I'd need to get off and stretch, and the music helped to lower the fatigue of wind noise and kept me awake and going through the monotonous ride down the interstate to get home. I used to hate doing more than a couple hundred miles in a day because of how much my butt and back would hurt, but now I feel confident that I could put in a 500 mile day without a problem.
