Default Docking hardware change?

I tried to put my passenger backrest off of my 2016 Street Glide on my son's 2012 Road glide but it doesn't seem to fit. Does anyone know if there was a change in the mounting hardware between those years. Thanks in advance.

The change was 2104 when the new Rushmore models were introduced.

I have put my HD back rest, that I bought used and its a pre-2014 one, on my 2016 and on my brothers 2011... no issue on my bike, but on his when we rotated the "latches" it would not lock down all the way, because the frame of the backrest under the latches would hit on the frame of the 4-point dock before the latches rotated all the way (kinda "bottomed out"). It lined up with the 4 mounting points fine otherwise.

Turned out he had an aftermarket 4-point dock on his 2011, and the curve/bend in the frame of dock was a slightly different radius than my HD one, in a critical place. We did not have any issue though with a luggage rack or tour pack brackets... just the backrest. All of the "accessories" frames are designed a little different from each other. He changed his dock to an HD one for his bike, and the back rest fit.

The geometry didn't change at all. I've used the backrest from my 13 RG on my 16 RG and 18 CVO RG with zero issues, at least until I changed to an air ride on the 16. Geometry is still identical, but the diameter of the mounting surface on the shock is bigger so the front "forks" of the backrest won't slide over the shock mounting point. Unless he's got something like that going on it should absolutely work.

Harley dock to Harley detachable = fine
Harley dock to aftermarket (Chinese) needs forced on or massaged to work right.
