understanding that kbb is not what the dealer uses to get values, but i've always used it as a 'guide' and it's done me well. kbb says the 17 sgs should retail for $23,315, and your 16 king has a trade in value of $12,800. so there is no way that i would pay a $16k difference. i wouldn't go above $10k.
but then again, how high you are willing to go depends on how badly you want the bike. is it worth taking it in the shorts to get a new(er) bike? to me, no, but maybe it is to you.
Go back to the same dealer same time next year and I'm willing to bet you can get a new bike for half the price, but the economy will be in a depression
Wow 26.5K for a a 2017 SGS is a lot of money IMO. I remember paying $22,500 out the door including tax on my 2017 SGS when I purchased it new. I get it, market value and high demand coupled with low inventory, but I think that price is absurd on a 5 year old bike.
No kidding my 17 RK total ticket was $21K done including cali's outrageous taxes with a couple services and about $1800 worth of freebies tossed in.
But the mothership said just before the M8's hit the market their new business model was to bring this very situation back to the brand by limiting inventory and reducing production which they have steadily done since 2017.
Damn! I heard used prices are up, but that’s craziness. I bought my ‘17 FLHTK as a new leftover in September ‘18 and paid $23K plus sales tax. And got 1% financing.
Years ago, I bought a roadglide this way (I may have told the story here before). I was in a dealership in Maine, about 250 miles from home. There was a guy looking to buy the newest "XXX" I forget what it was. he was at the table doing the dance with the sales guy. I was considering my first bagger and was talking to another sales guy on the floor, not far from where the other guy was waiting for the next set of numbers
Guy somes out of the little glass office, says I was listening to you guys while I was waiting, these ****er only want to give me $8000 for my roadglide on a trade (it was 3 or 4 years old). If you're serious, I'll sell it to you for $8500 just to **** these guys that are trying to **** me on the trade.
Ran to the bank, got $8500 and bought a roadglide. The dealer was PISSED. I road that bike for a couple years and sold it for $12000 to a guy from Nebraska
I would've walked the minute he insisted on taking out a new bike for comparison. I can't stand pushy sales tactics or salesmen. I've walked out of many a dealership just for those reasons alone.
Alot of them act like theyre the only game around and if you want an HD you HAVE to deal with them.
There are 5 dealerships within an hours drive in any direction from my house and to be honest I'd rather buy from a private seller anyway. So screw 'em.

Right! I've never heard of that. I don't even understand the sales tactic of doing that.
I think H-D sales people have gotten tot the point where they figure if you want it you'll sign, which means the average person isn't aware of the bottom line and the interest rate etc. They just want the bike and blindly go along with all the charges lumped into "the loan".
