Not having any interaction with young humans, Im always at a loss when it comes to gifts for toy runs.
In the past I even started threads looking for ideas which turned out to be less than helpful.
I just checked the website of the Childrens Shelter which is the charity for one of the upcoming runs I intend to do this year and found this.
I hope it may be of help to anyone else that has a hard time buying gifts for kids you dont know.
There's a charity here in town that my daughter volunteered at during middle school that we donate to. It's a pretty neat place that shelters abused women and their munchkins, so they always need clothing and food.
IMHO many are motiviated by what they think is cool, rather than what kids would actually like and play with. My example for this is those people who love showing up with giant stuffed animals strapped to their bikes. I've spoken to some of the staff (at Children's hospital in Denver) and they specifically recommended not getting those and to get something they can actually play with. Also, people tend to emphasize the younger kids and sometimes there are not enough suitable toys for the older kids. Gift cards are a good idea too.
Maybe I'm an old goat, but there is no way I'm buying any of these for the youngsters
