Bosnmate...The Kansas ALR was similar to your group's, in regards to the Patches. Post number in a Rocker on top, the American Legion Rider emblem in the middle, and the Home City of that Legion post in a bar on the bottom.

We got an email recently from the State ALR Director. Apparently the Cof C had a meeting with the ALR Leadership recently, and requested that all ALR Riders in Kansas remove the Bar from the bottom.
It isn't just Kansas and Georgia now, it is ALR wide. Personally, the few posts that were getting carried away trying to do things more like an MC (not as 1% MC as suggested) in Georgia were policed by us and corrected before it got out of hand. Basically, a few Posts were trying to have initiations and what not and the ALR doesn't do that and we put a stop to it.

As you know membership in the ALR consists of:
1. Membership in the American Legion
2. 350cc Motorcycle or larger.
3. YOU buy your own patches, they are not given or awarded to you and they are YOUR property.
4. Valid MC drivers license.

That's it. No probationary period, no pomp and circumstance, no initiation etc...

So, again, what I would like to know is what happened all of a sudden to change their minds?

My dad and uncle were Red and White in Cal. My dad always kept club business on the down low around our house. My uncle was injured in a bike wreck in Big Bear in the 80's and had some brain damage.I never really understood theirlink to 81 until I was older. I have chosen not to join as I live in an Outlaw state and desire a little peace.

Terry, we do accept that and I respect that. Since I don't have direct access to dominate club leadership to ask the question of what happened, I thought I would do it here and hope for the best. It just got a little befuddling that the ALR was being made to change. So far, I think this thread has been very civil.
I've enjoyed lurking here, and I've actually learned a lot. It has been relatively civil, but from a strict outsider's view point, and not meaning to step on anyone's toes, I think writing things like "MC's talk about earning the right to wear three pieces because they were the club house pizz boy for a few months or so" might tend to offend some of the patches present. If we can just think about what we're about to say, I think we'll get a lot further.

I believe this might be the "Motorcycle Club, Riding Club" educational site you might be talking about..

Kind of reminds me of the old saw: "I wouldn't want to belong to any organization that would have someone like me as a member." [sm=confused06.gif]
