Common this area also, unless you are a known regular 10% mark is the norm, one dealer does 15% and still get business due to location.

One smart *** counter queer to me it's a convenience fee for having it on hand.

But the customer can decide to shop elsewhere. There's too many ways to obtain HD parts not from HD or dealers.

Perhaps you belive government run would be better?

There is another dealer only 4 miles further away from me than this one. I can ride there to get parts at the normal price. I had to get these two bearings, #11000010 M8 trap door mainshaft bearing, because no one else(including Harley) had them. It's a Harley specific part and no aftermarket supplier has them that i've found. Last time i will ever buy anything from my "local" dealer. I have also bought two bikes from them over the years. Never again. Good way to lose business over a few dollars in parts.

But the only parts my local dealer has on hand are 2 cam cover screws, a returned primary gasket, and a spark plug. Everything else has to be ordered.

HD sucks for doing this. It’s not capitalism. So stop saying that here. You cannot give one area of free market and protect another from free market.
You are free to buy wherever you like. No one is stopping you. Get on your bike and ride to whatever dealership you want, as far away as you can handle and buy your parts wherever you like. No one is forcing you to buy at your local dealer. It is Capitalism. You are just crying because your local isn’t giving you a reach around.
