So... does anyone know what causes the Big Bang when starting an 07 96"? I've been told (by an HD service manager) that it is the starter, others have told me it's the new primary adjuster. Does anyone know for sre? And how long will it be till there's a recall, cuz something can't be right.
One of the first things I had checked as well and my service manager told me the same thing. However, mine has got better with time, doesn't do it much anymore.
The starting system was redesigned in the '07 models. The old system used a "jack shaft" to assist the starter in turning over the engine. The new system did away with the "jack shaft" and they added a starter with higher torque and more power to turn over the 96" engine. The noise is considered normal for this set up.
When I first got my 07 Deluxe in May of this year, it also had the big bang, but like warthogsf, mine alsogot better with time and actually doesn't do it at all now.

Doesn't it kind of make you wonder why it doesn't do it anymore, what changed?

Nice bike apart from the noise how do you like it?
Can someone describe this "big bang" a little better?
I mean, on my Bob,there'sthe noise of the engine first kicking over / firing up (really doesn't sound substantially different than my wife's '05) ... but it sounds like you're describing something different. . So I'm confused, and wondering if there's something I should be listening for.
