Are they still able to ship to buyers outside of their area?

I doubt it. I think Surdyke held the longest and they don't do it any longer.

Must be part of the plan.

Used to be able to buy parts from any dealer on the interweb. I used to buy stuff from Ronnies, Surdyke, et.al., but now, when I want to buy an OEM part the website automatically directs me to the nearest dealer.

Pretty soon, every OEM part you want will only be accessible at the dealer. It's cheaper to ship a bunch of stuff to one place, instead of 50 places all around the same place.

it's all about the dolla, boys......

Last "out of area” on-line purchase I was able to make was at the end of 2022. Ordered some painted parts from Utah Harley. And that was that. Ronnie's, Surdyke, and New Castle had stopped as well.

Can dealers even buy from other (“out of territory”) dealers anymore, or are they stuck buying direct from the factory?

I now look up the HD OEM number on eBay and Amazon. I have had really great success doing that. Real OEM parts at a good price, usually 10% or more off msrp.

I’ve resorted to buying some used parts, but that’s also due to availability for the older model bikes… some stuff just isn’t being stocked anymore.
I understand not every dealership can stock their shelves w/ older parts that don’t fit current models, but not being able to buy them from a dealership that happens to have them is just stupid.
Corporate doesn’t care about lead times and us not being able to ride a 15yo bike because we need a part.

This seems like a great opportunity for the aftermarket industry to step in and sweep up that revenue.

About half of what I bought for my rebuild was aftermarket anyway.

I’ve done this, particularly on small parts like I used to get from Ronnies.

Awesome site that has a great breakdown for each model if you use the microfiche link on their home page.
Thank you. Now to see if the obsolete part number I just found on their website is available or gone forever.

Anything to not have to deal with my dealer, the drive there alone is a pain in the ***.
