Default Vent trim

My new bikes vent trim is like matted black on my street glide special. All of the color match vent trims i looked at are with LED lights. I can get a vivid black high gloss one or i can order a aerosol paint match for my fairing at $49.00. I was wondering if anyone just went black or painted theirs to match fairing? My fairing color is bright billiard blue. Even if i got the LED vent trim & didn't hook it up your looking at $170.00

I've been eyeing the chrome version. And it can be had without lights.

I just went through this. Here is what I learned a hard way... you will be better off buying that part from the dealer lol...if you end up painting it, it will come out like absolute ****. Trust me, I know. There is something with that plastic that is does not allow for paint from the rattle can to settle nicely on it and it will look like cottage cheese. At the end, I bought the part and it's nice and smooth that matched my paint.

I think mine was 140 bucks from the dealer in vivid black.

Just to give you an idea how bad it was. My neighbor stopped by while I was in my garage. While we are talking, he looks at the vent part and goes "Did you paint that?" lol... so, it just shows you that it didn't look good at all if a guy who doesn't have a bike or knows anything about them can identify part that I personally painted.

I did try to smooth the plastic out with some light sand paper. On surface, it would be smooth, but the paint would just not cure on it properly. Save yourself a headache and get the OEM part. It looks so much nicer. When you do install it, make sure you follow instructions and use a razor to cut out the tape from behind the fairing. Also, there is a double sticky tape on each end of the vent. I originally didn't see that and when I installed the vent, both ends were sticking out. I had to cut out the tape from behind again, buy new double sided tape and redo the whole thing. So keep that in mind to remember to use every piece of tape that is on that vent.
