Called it, I ground those out way back in the early 70's for fighting those damned split cone keeper on axle ends. Guys later at the plating plate I was at thought it would be funny and chromed everything in my box they could grab. I have some of the only chromed Mac and Snap-on impact sockets out there.

I have a collection of mostly Craftsman (Sears) tools, some SK, a few others. Most of the Sears stuff is old, I've accumulated it over the years, and they're good for a shadetree mechanic doing light duty, such as myself. That said, I once ruptured a Craftsman socket, a 7/8 or so, trying to loosen a bolt. Yeah. It split right up the side. Because they had a replacement guarantee, I took it to the local store for a new one. The sales guy took one look at it and said, "I don't even want to know," and handed me a new one. I didn't want to tell him, either.

Ride safe!

Started out with set of Craftsman tools that my parents bought me in 1969.
Since then I have accumulated many other brands that all work.

And, just to satisfy my curiosity, were the old Harley-Davidson models exported to Europe threaded for metric or Imperial? (I know, dumb question.)

Snap on and Mac are available here in the UK, albeit at a price to make your eyes water. They're the preserve of professional nut stranglers, as far as the ordinary man in the street is concerned.

King Dick and Britool are still made here in the UK, though Britool merged with the French tool manufacturer Facom a while ago.

German tools are exactly what you'd expect, Stahwille, Hazet, Gedore, and Wera to name a few, all excellent quality. though I believe Wera moved some of it's manufacturing to the Czech Republic.

Probably the most popular make for the average spanner man is Teng. A Swedish tool manufacturer, who outsourced their manufacturing to Taiwan, but maintained the quality.

All those tools referenced above are high quality offerings, and of course we are subjected to exactly the same low quality rubbish from China as you get.

Harleys exported here and Europe are still Imperial. And younger generations attempting to understand A/F sizes and fractions are a great source of entertainment for us old grumpy buggers,

Speaking of Whitworth ...

Here's a few sampling pieces of what my Dad handed down ... 1/4W Craftsman socket, Stahlwille open/box wrench
