Default New (to me) OEM tour-pak lid. What a difference!

For those familiar with my Advanblack tour-pak thread, I snagged a used OEM tour-pak lid to replace the Advanblack one that broke. The lid I got off Ebay is pretty mint. Looks like a brand new take-off, and I got it for just $125.00! It's a metal flake grey, with a black highlight and blue pinstriping, on the top. My original plan was to paint it black to match the bottom, but after installing it today, I think I'm going to keep it as-is. The colours go really well with the black bottom, IMHO. The deciding factor will be how it looks mounted on Reaper.

The difference in build and paint quality is really evident, and all the comments I read about the crappy hinges/latches on these knockoffs is true. When I removed the broken lid, I found the hinges have become very loose where the two parts connect with a pin, so I found some nice used OEMs which will be installed ASAP. Another thing I found out is that the Advanblack bottom isn't quite the right shape, so the lid doesn't close correctly on the right front side. So, I found an OEM bottom, and bought it. That one WILL have to be painted because it's red. Another lesson learned. I REALLY should have just gone with a used OEM tour-pak from the get-go.

Anyway, here are some pics of the "new" lid installed on the black bottom. I think the colour contrast looks really good.

Cheers!

Youll like that OEM way better than the Amazon knock off. Quality of the OEM is 10 times better.

Smart move. Better quality (IMHO) as well. I was in sort of the same situation and lucked upon a NIB tour pak lid already painted in my bikes color scheme for $200. Perfect match and cheap

I’ve said it before, knock Harley all you want but the paint and plastics are unmatched by any aftermarket or motorcycle manufacturer anywhere in the world.

Very true. That's why my 2011 RK looks like it's only 4 years old...

Good score. I like the two tone. The colors go together well.

I decided to put a tour pak on my Road Glide. I was torn between OEM or aftermarket.. (I could have saved well over 50% going aftermarket). But I decided to go with Harley. The color match is perfect. I even had them install the lights, the rack and backrest.. Glad I did.

I bought a fiberglass shell from Cavalry Fiberglass that was supposed to be a dead match in size/shape to a 2007 HD king tour pak. I built it how I wanted with all HD hinges/latches and some aftermarket accessories. I painted it to match myself.
Well, the tourpak rubs against itself in several places and the paint is gone around the lid from interference with the bucket. If I had to do it again, I would get one from HD.
