Considering working for a local H-D dealership in sales. I have some other job opportunities but having trouble deciding. Has anyone here ever worked in motorcycle sales for a dealership? I really need to decide soon, any advice, opinions or experianceswould be greatly appreciated!
After I retired from the real world I got a job selling metrics as I had always been enveous of people standing around talking bikes all day. It was a neat experience and the guys who were good at it made decent money. The downside is the hours can be long. If you know the product, that's great. If you don't know the product and differences in yours and otherproducts you better learn. You won't be able to get by with just b.s. alone.
I've got to ask what kind of money does a guy selling bikes make if they are half way good at it? I am considering this but it almost a guarded secret as to what someone can make in the midwest area. Are you salried or on comish or both?
Looong hours, the parts guy at our local one hates the hours... has a beautiful Road King that he never rides... except to work. If its ridin time its working time at the dealership

I retired about 5 years ago and got to riding bikes again. I started hanging out at the local HD dealership. They offered me a job as I knew where everything was and was people oriented. I have been there almost 2 years and like it pretty much. It was supposed to be a part-time job only. I now work 9-5 Mon thru Friday. I plan on taking off more when the weather cools off a bit. I work mainly in sales. You can make as much as $5,000 a week with salary and commision if you hustle and are in a great location. Or you can get a straight hourly rate like I do, ( mainly because I am drawing Soc. Sec. and can only make so much a year). I do it for the fun of it, not for the money. It can be a pain sometimes as you get to meet ALL kinds of people. Some real nice ones I call friends now and some Dufoes that I call idiots. It is all how you make it. Try it, you might like it. But, like they say, long hours and not much riding time. Yall ride safe. W.G.
