I bought my first Harley a few years ago…2007 Dyna. It came with a Sundowner seat and a backrest. I was clueless about aftermarket seats when I bought the bike so I guess I lucked out on this one. I’ve done a few full day rides and never had any discomfort. The Sundowner with backrest is staying as long as I own it.
I hated the look of the backrests on my bikes and the awkwardness of kicking my leg over with joint issues, but then I figured I’d give it a try and I don’t think I’ll ever go without again. Game changer for posture and comfort, just have to get the angle for your back dialed in.

Hmmm... Hadn't really thought about that. The backrest I have on my RDL folds down so I don't have to kick my leg over. When I get on, I fold it down, kick my leg over, and then reach behind me to raise it before sitting down. Similar process getting off. Stand up, reach behind me to fold the backrest down and dismount. It's all automatic now. I don't even think about it. In fact I kept doing this the other day when I just had the solo seat mounted... Reaching behind me to find nothing there. Habit.

Mine folds down too, and I’m able to kick over most the time without getting stuck halfway 🤪…but I have to “step through” getting off, my hip just won’t do the reverse kicking over motion. My wife gets a kick out of it every time, especially when I get stuck halfway 🤣
