But not me, this time! Guy at work has a 'Wing & a King. His wife wanted to go out so she rode the RK while he followed on the 'Wing. At a stop at the bottom of a hill he noticed a car approaching from the opposite direction while they waited to turn left. He tried to tell her to wait for the car, but she took off. No, the oncoming car didn't get her, but she failed to make the turn, hit the curb and went down. She hit the QD windshield with her face & knocked it loose, as well as blacking her eyes. Scratched the chrome a bit on the engine guard, broke the left exhaust mount, and cracked the crossover pipe.
She doesn't understand how countersteering works, and often tries to just lean the bike to turn. In this case the lean wasn't enough to finish the turn, and she screwed up by trying to turn the bars and giving it more throttle. She was already going fast enough that countersteering was in effect. Hubby said she panicked and that's why the throttle. Anyway, hitting the throttle snapped the bike upright, and straightened it out so it went into the curb.
Bike's getting fixed, and she's recovering. For once, hubby made her dress in riding clothes so she didn't get much in the way of road rash. I generally give her a ration when I see 'em on the road, 'cause she is usually wearing open toe shoes, shorts, and a skimpy top.
Y'all be careful, and if ya can't do that, at least don't be stupid.
Good to hear she had on riding gear. Just got back from Lone Star Rally a few weeks ago in Galveston and although they look great (at least most of them do) I just can't help thinking that these gals are going to really ruin some good skin if they take a fall. I'm not that brave with my SO.
It seems that this time of year, people are really dropping like flies. Let's all be careful out there!! And keep your eyes behind your heads open too.
