I live in Washington State so I have to wear a helmet(and I wear a novelty). I'm not sure if I would go helmetless is they changed the laws here. I can say that whenever I go to Idaho and get that little taste of freedom I go helmetless.

Motosportman,
I ask you again: Help me out here with something. If your were born 11/1954 what combat did you see in Viet Nam?
Although I don't agree with Motosportsman's view on the German novelty helmet, he could have seen action in Vietnam since the last troops were out in '75. Most of the troops were pulled out in '73(which would have man him 18 or 19) but we still had soldiers there till April 30th 1975.
I am aware of that, I'd like to hear about it from him. That's all.
gee i dont remember any war that was great. for the past 200 years .even the civil war was not good but you still see people wear them type hats .good god man it was war.if some body wants to wear a german type helmet or any type of helmet so f----- what it dont make him hitler god get over this crap. we all did time for uncle sam so what.that is what we did it for so every body could wear what they want with out some dip s--- making it the 30's and 40's all over again.the helmets they wear today in irag looks like german helmet.that is wrong with this country today .everybody has the same right. no matter where they come from .it's called get over what happen 70 years ago . or do you want to bash everybody from the south for what happen there.you think that was a picinic.
Anyway, from my understanding, Head Trip Helmet's(carbonfiberhelmets.com) non-DOT helmets have passed all the tests required to acquire the DOT label except the "spear" test. If this is true, then yes, they may still not be as safe as a real DOT lid but they are exceptionally better than those $10 plastic lids at the rallies.
So, is this info correct? Just curious.
I heard that in another thread, sent them an email, and they confirmed it. So according to the company that is correct.
He would have been 18 years old in 1972..............................
As for the helmet, it isn't a **** helmet. It was the helmet that all German troops wore during the WWII era. It has been copied by many countries since due to it's design providing superior protection as oppossed to other designs. Your analogy that it shouldn't be worn because the **** troops wore it makes as much sense as not owning a Mitshubishi because they made the Japanese Zero or a Honda because Imperial Japan attacked US soil. America made peace with Germany and Japan along time ago.

As a firefighter paramedic, and a reserve deputyI agree with the what do you think your head is worth to you arguement. Just not to MISTERMOOSTER's(sorry):"To those who say, "If you've got a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet: So, what's your head worth?.... $100...$250? Wow, that's much better". You would be suprised at just how much more protection those helmets can offer(style dependent). Not to preach from my soap box here but if you're a parent especially you should take into account "your" safety for the kids sake as well. It's a horrible experience to inform a family of a death in any case, worse whenthat it could have been prevented by wearing the right safety gear. That was one thing my fatherdrilled into me as a young rider (if he caught me riding without a helmet he would have kicked my *** worse than a crash would)
