I dont take my vehicles to a dealership at all unless its warranty work. Even at best, they are always at least 50% higher than my trusted independent mechanic.
Same for harley, really. Interval services are twice the cost versus my indy. 3 years ago, I replaced both tires on my 17 RGS AND front brakes. Indy was 525 OTD. Local harley dealer wanted almost 900 just for 2 tires installed.
I wish I lived in High Point! No deals like that in Southwest Florida! Indy’s seem to be about $25 less per hour than the dealership. Like $175 vs $150. I have not surveyed them all yet, but quite a few.
In the world we live in everyone has to eat… it’s hard all over. I’m talking Harley, but here’s what prompted this thread. I recently for the first time took a 5 year old automobile to an Authorized dealer for a estimate for a major job I didn’t want to do myself.
I had a flat tire on my Tundra. I was out of town, couldn't go to my regular local guy, and so took it to Village Toyota in Homosassa, asked them to replace the tire. The quote I got back, after all their "must do" add-ons, was well over $5,000.
I chuckled, left skid marks out of there and took it to Mavis down the road for four new tires.
