A difference in heated applications seems to be the only advantage of red. Red is rated to 383F and the new orange at 303F (150C). That means orange covers flywheels, axels, rotors, and many other critical components. But knowing that red doesn’t breakdown until nearly 400F means that it still has a place in my arsenal. Of course, it is not unusual in those applications to use heat to help get a red off. Only other restriction may be titanium, fortunately I don’t ever use titanium and passivizing SS is an easy process.
High strength bolt applications and orange, a great combo.
Well I decided to apply the orange. Maybe I shouldnt have tested a critical component, oh well. I shook the bottle real good before dispensing a bit on the caliper mounting bolts. The consistency was a gel even though it sounded liquid like all other products. Seems a little odd.

I think this is a smart use of orange. Im doing the same on an outdoor vehicle brake system as soon as it arrives. I really like the strength and the fact that on rotors, calipers, flywheels, that we will not need heat to break to bond. Heat can deter per the metal or bolt. I plan on using it quite a bit in areas of high stress and vibration.
I will not be surprised to see manufacturers moving to the recommendation of orange in some blue and in many red applications.
I got a large bottle (36ml) as well. At this point in life, for me, it's probably a lifetime supply. Good job to Permatex marketing department. Enough for me, and I can also share with others to spread news of the product. Perhaps that's the plan?
I must have had a blob of coagulated orange Permatex at the spout of my bottle. Used it on my air cleaner screws for the TC and it looks normal, in a liquid form, applying to the socket head cap screws.
