How the bullet & bolt cremation urn came to be.
We have his ashes on our mantle. Around 2021 I purchased 2 cremation crosses, into which I placed some of his ashes.
One cross is in Johns beloved 2005 Mercedes S500. The other is with my best friend Scott in NJ. Scott taught John a lot about race cars and life.
Scotts cross is in his 42 ****** drag racer, which John did take for a pass once with Scott as copilot!
I have been wanting something similar for the bike, but something different than the crosses. Something unique, something I could always see while Im riding, and of course it had to be very secure.
Last summer I went to the range with my son Michael. Well, while I was waiting my turn I was staring down at a bunch of spent shell casings on the floor.
Turns out a 22 pistol shell fits perfectly into a 22 rifle shell. (Im pretty new to shooting etc. so please forgive wrong terminology.)
So I added Johns ashes to the rifle shell. The pistol shell worked perfectly as a stopper. I pressed it in by hand about ź of the way but needed to finish it with a vise.
Last summer I had it mounted with 2 zip ties to the left mirror. I checked them before each ride. They worked OK, but Scott, a gifted fabricator, asked if he could create something special for John.
Around Feb 1st, 2026, I shipped my left mirror & Johns casing to Scott. I had no idea what Scott had in mind. I never asked; didnt have to. Whatever he was creating was going to be perfect.
Scott is also a gun guy, so he created the bolt idea, and I think its great! And it is press fit in place. Scott said if I want it out of there ever, I need to send it back to him!
I just wanted to share this idea in case it could be of help to a fellow rider.
Ride safe,
Mike
