I don't know if this is the right place for this, but thought I'd try anyway. My brother was building a custom HD bike and had purchased most of the parts to do this. He was a volunteer firefighter in CA and died a month ago while on duty at a fire. A week after he died, someone broke into his storage unit and stole all the HD parts as well as other things. I have some pictures, receipts, serial numbers, titles, etc. I suspect the items were stolen by someone who knew him and what he had. I'm sure this person will eventually try to sell the items. The sheriff's dept has the report, however, I thought there might be some way that the HD community can watch for any of these items if they're being sold.
That is one of the lowest things someone can do. I would look up all the local clubs, HOG, ABATE, etc, and give them a copy of this post and ask them to print it in their newsletters. Tell as many of your brothers freinds, co workers, etc what happened. Someone will know who did it, and hopefully make it right. Call a local reporter and tell them the story.
Sorry to hear about your lost. If he had some unique parts you can try ebay. Buy the part and if it the part you can have ebay track the owner down. I know from experience I work in the field Internet Security and Black Market investigation for my company. We get 90% of ours busted this way. Good Luck.
