It's happened before here in the US. A CSI episode I've seen a couple times was loosely based on a guy who was poisoned by a snake-handling coworker. Incredibly slowed heart rate (deemed flat-lined at the scene) and other visible signs of death put the guy on the autopsy table. They start the first incision and there's blood.
I'll bet his wife was both incredibly relieved and unbelievably pissed at the paramedics and the coroner. That must have been an interesting scene.
