I posted this in the Dyna Forum, but maybe this a better place. I have a Sporster 1200 C, but would like to ugrade to a bike that is better on long rides. Which is better a Dyna with rubber engine mounts or a Softtail with the counter balanced engine? Better Suspension? I am cosidering a Wide Glide or a Fat Boy. Thanks for the help.
I had a DYNA before I got the Night Train and doubt I will ever go back to the rubber mounted engine on a DYNA. The WG is a nice bike but I vote for a softtail.
Depends how important handling is to you.....both can be very comfortable on the freeway; a well set up Dyna will be the winner in real twisty stuff. When I sold my Sporty I even tried non-HD bikes, ended up with an '01 FXDXT. Now I've got excellent two-up and solo capability, aided by a 103" motor and a 620lb wet weight.
Sharkey's on the money. I run a Softail now but she won't handle like a dyna. We have a lot of the twisty windy here in NZ and I'm scraping the bottom lugging her round bends that the glides handle easy. The softie is a longer bike though and more comfortable if you're gonna ride 2 up.
Another vote for the Dyna. My bike is great for the twisties, but I've taken long trips with no problems also. She's taking me to Myrtle Beach when I get home this trip!
Hey wisemx! I'll be home on Wednesday![sm=biker2.gif]
My wife has an 05 1200c which I've ridden a number of times ( fun scoot by the way), I've owned 2 Dyna's (FXDX FXDWG3) I've ridden all the softails. I think the Dyna's handle better. A fat boy is more plush. Personally if you want plush and you like the look of the fat boy , I'd get an RK instead . Better long distance bike, IMHO.
you can take a dyna or a softy and make it what ever you desire. there is parts you can turn any bike to what you want.road bike canyon runner. there is no end to the list. i really think that is what a lot of people forget. that is what great about doing your own bike .sure you can buy a stocker but you still got to change a few things if you are going to do differnt rideing on them.depending on your budget and rideing style what is going to work best for you.both are great bikes .

Can't go wrong with a Fatboy. Got a buddy that does big miles and loves his FB. Softy's feel nice and solid underneath you due to the solid mounted motor and solid swingarm pivot that has no flex. Since you want to go on longer rides why not consider the Heritage Softail. Nice long distance machine out of the box, and if you pop the windshield, and bags off it looks almost as cool as a FB. If you live for the twisties the Dyna would be better or better yet a Buell.
