I have been having internet dropout problems all weekend. I have run virus scans until I'm sick of them... Finally phoned up the tech support from my ISP. He advised me that there could be interference from a radio device - what have I recently bought?
Well... we changed the channel on the wireless modem and I've put the key-fob in another room and it's working perfectly - what does this indicate?????
More than likely - it's the damn immobiliser/alarm on my SuperGlide!! FFS!!!
It has a buttonless, proximity alarm system that automatically arms/disarms when you're close to it. I've been online without a disconnect fopr about half an hour now - unheard of over the last few days!!
Anyone else getting similar problems???
Who would have thought???
I'll keep you posted! (I really hope this is the problem - cos if it starts dropping out again I may send the computer into orbit around the sun!!)
I have a Quest DSL modem. It use to drop me all the time. Tech guy said it could happen if the phone cord was longer than 5'. Well, I had them send me another modem. They charged me for it, and then credited it back once they received it. The multiple number of tech people I talked to said that it dropping had absolutely nothing to do with the modem. They fought with me, but eventually sent it. Since I put it on, two months ago, I have only been dropped once, and that was during a thunderstorm (and the phone cord is at least 20' long). LOL Oh well.
Kind of makes since, your situation that is. If we can use a wireless modem card to connect with a separate machine (even one across the street), I could see how a radio signal could affect it. It is weird, though. Have you tried anything else to try and make it drop? I am intrigued. LOL
I have been on the computer for hours now - without a hint of a problem.... I'm guessing it was that... Changing the modem channel and putting the key in a different room is all I've done! A guy on the Australian forum is testing the theory as he has had innumerable dropouts and has swapped modems etc with no success. Who knows!?!
