I have half helmet and full face HJC helmets for both my wife and myself. The half helmet is fine except when riding over 60 mph then the wind noise through the straps is real bad even with ear plugs. Full face is great in cold weather and highway riding at 70-80 mph if you have loud pipes though you might need ear plugs though some how wind noise with full face is not a factor but the exhaust noise is.
Just bought the HD carbon fiber/Kevlar half helmet last weekend. It is a smaller profile and doesn't make me look like a bobble head figure. It is not as small as some other carbon fibers but does look smaller than a normal half.
I also have a 3/4 and I will occasionally wear a full face if it is really cold. But, I wear the half helmet 95% of the time.

My HJC 3/4 with ear plugs worked fine -Wind not much of an issue over 60 mph.. Maybe your helmet is sized incorrectly. Or it could be that my custome ear plugs are the difference. Hmmmm.
