RE: Motorcycle with Pratt & Whitney aviation motor!
Cool! I am surprised that with all them cylinders its only 2800 cc. I did not know Rotac made radials. What airframe applications do they go on? As for the best way to mount them I would think for cooling, the best way is to mount them with the cylinders outward like it would be on a plane. As for how it fires I don't know. The old Wasp engines had magnetos, used a cam-ring to run the valves. I spent over 20 yrs workin on turbine engines. I was always amazed with Radials....engineering marvels...the old P&W twin row Wasps especially.

I think the torque on this type would make her hard to handle. the one with the side mount would keep the torque in line with the throttle roll IMO torque is the HELL in radial aircraft engines...
RE: Motorcycle with Pratt & Whitney aviation motor!
thats what i,m wondering about, rode a inline 4 indian once noticable torque man who owned it told me dont wind it up an dump the clutch said it would throw me down.cant imagine the torque of one of these

those are cool, but blackbird how do they fire? I see two different ways of mounting the engine which would work the best?
If you mean firing order it's 1-3-5-7-2-4-6 for a seven cylinder radial. I like the looks of the "Radial Chopper" best but it will overheat fast. "Radial Hell" will cool much better but torque will be a problem. Neither one is actually good for riding. They're just interesting to look at IMO. All show and no go.
I like radial engines on an airplanes. When I went to A&P school in 1957 I cut my teeth on a 9 cylinder Wright R-1820 Cyclone engine. It's the same engine used on the B-17 Flying Fortress. The R-1820 is a thrill to run-up on a test stand when you're about three feet behind one in a small wooden shack with a 1/4" thick plexiglass window. The Wright R-1820 produces over 1,000 hp.

Those fat radials gave the corsairs thenickname "ensign eliminators", on roll out they would just flip right over if you ran the throttle up too fast.
