When I leave my helmet on my handlebar, I take my Panoptix glasses with me. Way to easy for someone to just casually reach in and take them. And at $180 a pair, I'd be pretty pizzed if I came back to the bike and they were gone. I leave my ZUMO 550 on the bike if I'm just going into a dealer or something like that. Otherwise I take it off and put it away.
I've heard those Zumos attach pretty securely. ALthough I wouldn't want to leave one anywhere overnight do you feel it unsafe to leave it for a while during the day?
It has a little "security screw" that keeps it in place while riding and keeps someone from just coming by and flipping the the release on top and walking away with it. That would take about 3 seconds. Of course someone could start removing the handlebar mount but that would take time and be more noticeable. During the day I'm never away from my bike for more than an hour or so unless I'm at work, and I don't take it to work. If I were going to be away from the bike for more than an hour or so, I'd just remove it. No sense taking a chance.

Leaving anything on a bike in a busy shopping center parking lot is really taking a chance here in Las Vegas, BUT last week I went to FRYE'S wearing my leather coat. It was just too hot to walk around FRYE'S with the coat on. I put it over the windshield. After spending considerable time inside I returned and while putting on my coat noticed my cell phone lying on the seat. I had obviously pulled it out of the coat to put in my pocket and forgot it. That says a lot about most people being scared to death of taking anything from a parked Harley.
I am normally cautious about what I leave on the bike if I am to be gone for very long. I both carry my $400 helmet or put it in the tour-pak and out of sight. I don't mind leaving the leather jacket as it is old, beat up and stinky. I always put my gloves (good ones) in a saddle bag.
A few months ago, I came out of Wally World and back to the bike. Parked next to me was a Lexus SUV with the driver's keys hanging out of the rear deck lid lock. I just opened the door and tossed the keys into the cargo area. I figured that the expense of a visiting locksmith was less than the expense of loosing a nice car and having all your household keys in circulation with the bad guys.............. BC
Have never lost a thing, and am really pretty careless about leaving things on the bike, and leaving the ignition unlocked, but usually only do that if the bikeis within view or round back of the bar. I will change that habit now...was in the local paper last night that an 06 EGC and an 03 Duece were stolen from behind two different bars, and the EGC's ignition was unlocked. (dont know why an owner would admit to that?) Other bikes in the lots had damage to their ignitions.
I will now be a bit more cautious, but not to the point of paranoia.
I too have not had anything stolen, but that is mostly due to my being paranoid and lot leaving anything where I or my buds are not watching it. I have lost SEVERAL pairs of glasses though..
Had a pair of lightweight gloves taken off my seat once. Bought them at a metric dealer. Best pair of gloves I had and I haven't been able to find the exact samekind to replace them. [&o]
Knock on wood - No. I will not leave anything hanging on the bike for any length of time though. If I'm going to be gone and out of sight for awhile I will carry it or atleast put it in a saddle bag where it can't be seen.
Up to this point...no problems. But I don't chance anything and try to remember to lock up what I can unless I'm just doing a quick "run in" to a store; and then I make sure to keep within sight of the bike.
