I live in the Northeast, too. It doesn't rain every day. And when there's no snow or salty slush on the roads, try this: http://www.gerbing.com/index.html.
I live in the Chicago area and I never "winterize" the bikes and I never put the golf clubs in the basement. I ride whenever the temps climb into the 40's and I golf whenever the snow isn't covering the fairways. Winter isn't too bad if you justdon't let it beat you.
We have been having the 40 degree and rain weather here too. Did get a ride in last Saturday and don't have plans to put the bikes up quite yet. Last year Hub and did a short ride on Thanksgiving day, that was my last ride until we went to Florida in February and rented bikes. I think I could handle riding in the cold, it's the ice and then all the sand and salt that I would worry about.
It'll happen here in the NE too. Not yet but it's coming. Maybe we'll be lucky and it will be another mild one allowing for some riding throughout. You can plan your vacations around riding too. Nothing beats heading south for some riding in the dead of winter. And then there's wrenching on the bike. Some heat in the garage, maybe a couple of buddies and brews does wonders too.

Get some heated gear and keep riding. 40's is still like summer. I ride during the winter as long asthere is no snow, ice and salt on the roads. Can't ride every day but even once every two weeks isn't bad.
Man, that stinks! We won't be winterizing ours...we can ride pretty much year round with the exception of a couple weeks here and there. Today was a beautiful day...low 80s. I rode to meet the hubby for lunch. I don't get to go out nearly as much as I'd like, so I love the fact that I don't have to put my baby up for the winter.
Same here...As long as there is no ice on the road I will ride well down into the 30's. I do try to leave my bike parked moreduring deer rutting season, damn things are everywhere! . Northern Vermont,
BURRRRRRR I was born and raised in Conn, but my grandparents had a dairy farm in Jeffersonville Vermont. Maybe you can find an ole vintage Harley Davidson snowmobile and ride that for some relieffrom your withdrawls!
What part of northern VT do ya live? I've been entertaing the idea of trailering my bike to Conn next summer and ridin the Bike up thru Vt, lookin up some relatives, then NH, and Maine...possibly even takin a fairy accross to Nova Scotia.
