Hmmmm - well I get the bike out, turn it on, wait for the lights to clear and hit the starter with it in neutral on the side stand. \\; I then wait a few minutes for it to warm up and pop the clutch select first and away I go - never had any problems. \\; If its warm already I just skip the warm up bit. \\; As the others say just check your clutch play for peace of mind. \\; If it still does it take it back to the dealer.
In the past Police bikes had to be clutched in to start. Should always start the bike in neutral with the clutch in to drop load off of the starter. Less wear and tear on the starter.
'08s will start in gear, but you still need to have the clutch disengaged. \\; It's gotta be either in neutral, clutch disengaged or not or \\;in gear with clutch disengaged. \\; The days of lurching forward at the curb are gone my friends. \\; I haven't ridden anything but HD since the early seventies, are you saying the imports won't start unless the are in neutral? \\; Man, that would suck, sittin' at a light, bike stalls in first, now you gotta find neutral while the mommy in the minivan on her cell phone is honkin' at ya?
\\;I WATCHED AS MY BROTHER STARTED HIS RIDE IN \\;GEAR CLUTCH IN WENT TO TICKLE IT WHEN CLUTCH CABLE BROKE-OUCH! THO IS WAS SOMTHING TO SEE AS IT WENT OVER THE SNOW MACHINE -NEVER WANTED TO START MINE IN GEAR AFTER THAT
'(snip) are you saying the imports won't start unless the are in neutral? \\;\\\\\\; Man, that would suck, sittin' at a light, bike stalls in first, now you gotta find neutral while the mommy in the minivan on her cell phone is honkin' at ya?
The metrics I've ridden won't start in gear or in neutral without the clutch pulled in. I also agree with Murphy on the dry clutch plates sticking that's causing the lurch.
