If you are looking for a very nice campground, with private baths and showers, and reasonably quiet, check out RushNoMore off exit 37 on I-90. There is a hill between you and I90 that buffers the road noise. Bulldog campground is between you andI90, where I stayed before I discovered thatjust over the hill it was much nicer! It did change hands a few years ago, and the noise level went up a bit, but still quite nice. They have an outdoor restaruant right there too, serving breakfast and suppers.
They have a nice open, flat area for motorhomes, with hookups as well as the camping area shown in these pics.
The Sturgis city council and the Meade County council have met and passed a ban on all RV / Motorhome / trailer traffic for two weeks prior to bike week, all of bike week, and the two following weeks in a effort to return the rally to its original roots.
When I go, I stay at Custer State Park. It's about 50 or 60 miles from Sturgis. Close enough to run in there for a little insainty, and far enough away so you can get away from the insanity. Easy day trips from there to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy horse, Deadwood, Custer, Devils tower, Wind Cave, etc. You won't want to miss the wildlife loop at Custer St. Park either, but if you see a heard of buffalo crossing the road, stop and do not proceed until the last one has gotten a couple hundred yards off the road. The bulls will charge motorcycles! Don't ask how I learned this.

I agree with Big wheel Bob....The Buffalo chip is a dump. I stayed there in 06 and the restrooms were nasty....were never cleaned the 4 days I was there. They're prices are also outrageous.Had a blast at Glencoe this year.
My first trip to Sturgis was back when it was still held in the city park. Since then I've hotel'd as far away as Wall, went a week without sleeping at the Chip and now in my old age have discovered No Name City campground and cabins. 3 miles from town but with a free shuttle bus to the "party", amenities like pool, hot tub, 24 hour restaurant and best of all a good nights sleep. I highly recommend them.

I stayed at Glencoe this year. Won't do that again. My friends and I checked out another nice place with full, partial, and no hookups for a decent price that I plan on staying next year. Hog Heaven Campground. Only1 mile from the center of Sturgis and good accomodations. Easy access with almost no traffic into town. Food, showers, bar, etc.The RVarea has no shade, but is on a small plateau overlookingeverything, and has a nice breeze. Plenty of open space for full size RV's.
I stayed at Lakepark Campground in Rapid City. Clean and quiet and less than 5 minutes from the Rapid City Convention Center (Harley HQ). It's about 15-20 minutes from downtown Sturgis. When I go back...that's where I'm staying.
