I do believe I-35 in Texas is the most crowded, worst highway in the U.S. It is just BAD!
I second that. I-45 from Houston to Dallas is bad and I-10 from Houston to San Antonio is bad at times, but I-35 is a nightmare. I was runnin 90 on I35 from Waco to Dallas in the slow lane and was getting passed like I was going 40.
I never hit a racoon, but I kicked one in my youth while riding an old shovel head. Dam near killed me. My foot and leg spun around backwards and dam near kicked myself in the back of the head. My leg and hip was sore for a month. My buddies behind me almost crashed they were laughing so hard. Won't do that again at 60 MPH!!!! I don't think the dam racoon was hurt too bad as he just spun around and kept on trucking.
It's the farmer's responsibility to keep his livestock contained. You should have told him to pound sand. If anyone was hurt from hitting his pig on the roadway it would have been his fault.
MIACYCLES,that is funniest thing I have read all day. My eyes are watering just picturing your story, how did you stay on the bike. and at my age no way i could kick myself in the back of the head. Great story. be safe Tom
I had a similar experience this summer when I was on a trip thru Wisconson. We were rideing along secondary roads thru farm country when we came around a corner and there in the middle of the road was a small pig. My riding partner was in front and he ran over this pig. Fortunally he was able to keep the bike up and aparently didn' kill the pig as it took off running up into the farmers field. How lucky we thought we were. A few miles down the road we stopped to get a cup of coffee and settle our nerves whenmy frieds cell phone rang. He generally looks at the called ID to see who's calling. He didnt recognize the number but he looked any way and low and behold it was the farmer that owned the pig. He proceded to start cussing him out and threating him. What a experience.
just b-cuz you tell this tale twice, dosent make it any more believable....
Two Thanksgivings ago I ran over a raccoon in y wife's Explorer. Always felt bad about that - till a few weeks ago when one attacked me and our dog. While defending the dog, (small ratdog) the raccoon bit me on the knee and then made his cowardly escape. I ended up having to get the rabies shots and they hurt like hell. I will never feel sorry for those stupid roadkill rodents again. In fact, Cardboard is my new hero.
I hit a big fat coon one day while crusing down a rural blacktop in Nebraska. I was cruisin at 115mph on my BMW K750riding 2 up (yea, stupid I know but I was young). Anyhow just as we were starting to cross a narrow bridge here come momma coon with about 3 or 4 babies crossing the road. It didn't take me long to figure out that this is a bad situation but it looked like if I just held my course I will probably just bareleymiss them. Well here come pappa bringing up the rear and it became very apperent that I was gonna connect. So not wanting to have bridge pillar for lunch I held my course and hoped for the best.I locked my arms and hunkered down. Sure nuff splatt dead center broadside in that fat ol boy. In a flash it was over and I'm still upright! Holy cow I thought, sure did luck out there, I wonder how bad it bent my front rim. Looked down and its runnin true as a virgin.
Slowed down after that.

One quick question.....how in the hell did farmer john get a hold of your friends cell phone number (or even know that he had a cell phone at all?)?
Oh....wait the farmer bit was just a cover.....he was actually working for U.N.C.L.E., and got Napoleon Solo to look it up for him...?
