Does installing a Power Commander (for example) void your warrenty? Only answer I get from the dealer is if it is the cause of engine damage repairs would not be covered. Sounds pretty vauge to me, but that is all they would say. Has anyone ever had a problem?
It will only void the warenty if they can prove that the modification caused the damage (Moss-Magnuson act). With a PCIII all you have to do is unplug it and they will never know that you installed it, that is unless you had them tune it. That is the case with any after market part that you put on your bike. the only way it voids your warenty is if it caused the damage.
" Mods made using non-HD/SE parts or even SE parts not listed as Street legal in the MoCo catalog and if the mods are not performed by a MoCo tech in an authorized dealership will void your warranty."
There are dealers that ignore the above as long as you bought the "stuff" from them but, don't take the chance on having a break down miles from home and going to another dealer for warranty repairs.
Also, it will be up to you to prove the problem was not caused by the modification done to the bike.
Do not take the above statement to mean if you put on, for example, non-HD grips that if you motor blows up you have no warranty.
But, if you put on, for example, a set of true duals of non-HD manufacture and the motor burns a piston from running to lean, you stand a chance of being told, "Sorry, your warranty is void".
The people that keep citing the Moss-Magnuson act, unfortunitly , don't have "it" quit right. IT WILL BE UP TO YOU TO PROVE THE MOD IN QUESTION DID NOT CAUSE THE FAILURE, NOT THE DEALER. All the time you are trying to do this, your bike is setting and you're not riding it!

I have dealt with this with regard to my Jeep. This act actually was instated to protect aftermarket manufacturers from this very thing. It is the dealers responsibility to prove that your mod caused the damage, get a lawyer if the dealer starts a bunch of crap.
