Default Patch/Plug

Just as I was getting ready to ride the other day I noticed something shiny on my new rear tire. I checked it and of course it was a small nail in the center groove. Although it was buried in there good the tire held air and wasn't flat. I called the local HD dealer and asked them if they could get me in to patch the tire. The service manager told me there isn't a "Spec number" or "Tech Number" for patching or plugging tires so I would have to buy a new one. I just bought the rear tire from an Indy a month before and it was $220 installed. The manager quoted me $235 for a knew one installed. I called the Indy and he told me they could patch/plug the tire for $60. So $77 dollars later (tax and a T-shirt) I now have a patched/plugged tire. I dont think there's anything wrong with the patch/plug but I was wondering what you guys would have done. Also what do you think about the dealer refusingto patch/plug the tire.
