- then as time goes by , you'll find your own "level" , ie what
you're comfortable with (the bike and your clothes) and then
its "to heck with what other people think".
I went through the biker image thing back in 2000 when I got back into motorcycles and bought a 79 shovel. It seemed like everythingI had was black.
Since then I've had 4 0r 5 harleys a couplehondas a couple of yamahas a triumph and even a BMW.I've concluded that I just like motorcycles and I don't have to act like a badass to be a quote unquote biker.
At present I have an 05 dyna that I'm having a great time with.
Ride on and be safe.
I betcha that is why Jesse James and West Coast was so popular, he went against the grain and wore plain ole work clothes. I wear what I want and as long as I am comfortable and don't care who likes it. I don't ride in large packs, in fact I don't like it. I am married and not trying to impress anyone! I went through that phase and bought everything under the sun but don't use a lot of it anymore.
Over the months of reading the interesting posts, have come to the conclusion that a lot of you feel pressure to have your bikes look a certain way, wherebiker relatedclothes, and generally act like a biker.Whatdo you have to say,I won't tell anyone.
I can only speak for myself ,but I don't feel pressured into anything. My bike looks and runs like it does for me.I 'm not concerned with "image".I wear an old beat up leather when the temp. drops.I ride in sneakers and don't wear any officially licensed H-D apparel, bike event T-shirts,do-rags,vests or anything else that makes up the so called "biker uniform".My hair is short and I'd probably be the last guy you'd think was a biker(if you wanna call me that)I love motorcycles, not just H-D's,especially Hotrods and Chops, and I wrench on my own as much as I can.I never did buy into the H-D "image" or "mystique".I see people comming out of the H-D dealer down here in Daytona spending money onand wearing more official H-D apparel than my bike is worth. If thats what you like and can afford it by all means go for it,it's just not me.
This is my opinion (which means nothing)on the biker image thingy.
People that have to have all HD stuff to ride their bike I dont understand. There are someproducts better than HD. Dont get me wrong HD gloves are the bomb but most other products I found better else where in my humble opinion.
I personally have been accused many times of having no class. Been called a dork, lame, not in style, just uncool in general. I wear torn stuff because I dont want bugs on my good cloths. My leathers are old and well used but very comfortable. The clothing I wear is functional only and would not attract the girls unless they like the grundge look.
I am not a bad a--. Accused many times of being too friendly. What does it matter? Live let live enjoy life. The tools out there that must be bad because their on a bike either they are new to the scene or just needing guidance.
I have found that people that will ride a few hundred miles in cold weather, really hot weather, or just anything that will put them at a small inconvience are the nicest people. In other words people riding to drink are the ones I found to be image people. The riders for the ride are the nicest. Like most of you guys. Really great people that ride for the love of life.
for me it is more about the couple hours of escape, i don't care what people think of me...never did.
i don't put things on my bike for other people to like, along as i like it, thats all that matters.
I wear leather and other "biker" cloths. Not because it makes me look like a biker but because if I crash I want all the protection from the asphalt I can get. Oh yeah, the curbs hurt your head when you hit them. You can ask my youngest son about that. Now he wears a helmet all the time and I do most of the time. So image isn't important but comfort and safety are.
