Do you remember when.....
You went into your local mororcycle shop,American,Jap,or Euro and it smelled like motor oil and gasoline and the owner had on a uniform with a rag in his back pocket? Yeah I'm old,but I miss those days. The new shops are like going to the Gallaria mall.Not complaining,just remembering.

i remember all of that. where i work at now (bmw dealership) we work on tile floors w/central heat and a/ca nd a roll up door that everyone in the shop has a remote for. if i accidentaly make a messthere is a guy behind me cleaning it up as i make it.

Those were the days! My shop does have a combination of oil and leather smell. They do not have air conditioning in the summer so on those hot, humid days it does bring back the smells and memories. Hey, maybe being old AND remembering is not so bad. [&:]

I sympatize with you,some of us talk about it a lot.The parts guys used to know lots about the bikes.Now your better off walking in with your own part numbers.It's much less hassle that way.

The old shops that you could talk to the mechanic without going through the locked doors? the one with the card table in the back room? cans of gunk you could buy and then use the shops wash rack to gunk off your bike..sounds like the Portsmouth, Va. Harley Davidson shop owned and operated by Mr. Bew and the counter man was Frankie, one of th Mechanics was Benny Ray and the other was Tommy Gene. watching Benny ride his unicycle up and down the ramp into the back room..ah yes the good old days of the 50s and 60s..Yes and I was part of it..what memory's almost all of us road Sportsters, stayed out all night riding, drinking cheap wine, and picking up the bar girls and riding down th the cannel banks on highway 17 in N.C.
