I have been searching for a lowering kit for my 82 FLT, any suggestions. I cant find anything except shorter shocks. Don't really want to replace shocks but, I will if I have to.
I tore a calf muscle in my left leg. Here's what I tried that with my '80 FLT. There are pics in my gallery but you can really see what it did for the bike.
I tried several things to lower mine. Installed a front fork lowering kit, and 10 1/4" shocks. The inner fender clearance on the top is not a problem for the shorter shocks and I didn't notice the a stiffer ride. One of the better things I tried was a corbin seat. The seat made a considerable difference for me in height but was too firm for me on a long ride. I went back to the mustang seat.
Here's a trick that my current bagger uses - the swingarm is flipped over meaning the shock mounts are on the bottom. It changes the shock angle slightly and you have to adjust your top bag mounts. I do have air shocks on the FLHT so I can adjust the ride. This might work and cost you nothing but time. If you do try it, I would strongly urge you to change the swingarm bushings. I couldn't believe the difference it makes with new bushings.
