I question the AAA towing service do they have trucks which will properly tow a Motocycle. I was stranded in my early years they dangled it from an old fashion truck hook it was scary. It wasn't Harley though I would never let them do that now. I always keep a card in my wallet of local bike hauler. I would rather pay for the tow and have it done properly.

Out here in the Black Hills we get a whooping 10 % off on parts, clothes, etc. I know, it doesn't sound like much, but it does add up.This does help, but I hear that at the first of the year this will change and will no longer be offered.

I guess I feel that even if you are paying what is it now, $60 bucks a year, that even if you use it once for a tow/pickup then it has paid you back and then some. What's that, a whole $1.25 dollar a week, or $.17 day?

AAA contracts with the local towing companies, they don't have their own wreckers. Depending upon where you are you will just as likely get a proper tow from AAA as HOG or anybody else. They all just contract with the local companies.

thanks everyone for replying, over in the uk unless you have a new bike,or take out hog insurance then you have to pay extra for hog assist recovery, so it is cheaper to join another recovery company. i am in a chapter that makes everyone welcome even newbies, there is nothing worse than going to a club and no one speaking to you so we try to make sure everyone is welcomed. as for riding yes we do ride in a orderly fashion, this is only for the safety of everyone, the other aspect is whilst riding in a group if anything doe's happen then there will be someone that can help, one of our directors did try and find out where the money went without luck, and any riding course's are expensive for what they are, our police force do a course called bike safe and they teach you to ride like a police officer, you can't do better than that. i did one two years ago and it opened my eyes, if it wasn't for some good friends iv'e made from the local chapter then maybe i would be riding solo.

I like the tow truck availability. Worth the money if I ever need it.

On the local level, I belong to the chapter. About half of the people know how ta ride, but the rest SCARE me! I don't go on very many of their rides, just like the dealer rides. When I do, I position myself with the people I KNOW. OR, and this pisses off the "road captains",
I pass or fall back until I find the people who I trust. Screw the "structure" of the organized rides, I wanna feel SAFE!

I've been riding 38 years, and I REFUSE ta ride around some old yuppie who has a lotta money and decided ta buy a Harley cuz it was "cool".Usually, these jerks have the Ultras and have no clue. Never been on a bike before in their lives! [:@]

You can ALWAYS tell them right away in the staging lot. THEY are the "Foot-Draggers" and "Duckwalkers".

With rare exceptions, if that bike is MOVING, yer feet should BE ON THE PEGS! Frikkin' ROOKIES!

If my memory serves me correctly, the HOG roadside assistance is good for 1x every 12 months? I have AAA RV pkg - can't remember exactly what it cost to upgrade, but AAA seemed to be a far better deal than HOG, at least for the roadside assistance - cage or scoot. Concerning local HOG chapters and such - they say that you get out of it what you put into it - well, I say, it all depends on the chapter. The ones around here just are not all that welcoming to newcomers. Have gone to several meetings at 2 different chapters and attended a few events and rides - but it seems that one has to attend these things for like a solid year or more and go to every meeting and on ever ride before one is considered a possible acceptable newcomer, especially when the long timers make themselves unapproachable. But that has been my personal experience and I know of many across the country whose chapters are not like the ones I have experienced.
