man this brings back memories. every bike i have had had its own personality. everything from kicking the first time without touching anything to rolling the throttle twice quickly and kicking through once and starting on the second kick.
i could never kick one off from the kickstand down i had to hold it up with my legs and (steve mcqueen) the kick pedal down. this eliminated the kickstart knee back up to the chest.
Vin,
Wouldnt worry about staring or zoning out while looking at your ride. I have been caught multiple times staring and talking to my ride. As far as starting, ignition on, wait for EFI, push start.
Pull out choke all the way, two quick twists of throttle, hit the starter. Let idle for a few seconds until the motor smooths out, then go to half choke. Half choke for a minute or so, then no choke until it warms up. This works great for cold weather, otherwise it will usually start without the extra throttle hits.
Panhead chopper, Bendix carb- Cold 2 squirts on da trotl, den a primer kik, then pull choke, turn on da key, pray like a banshee, roll him up onto compression, HEAVE HO. When its warmed up- GOOD luck ol' timer. Can be one kik, or it can be dozens.
78 FLH, S&S "B", Cold- pull enrichener, stroke it 2 or 3 times. Turn on key, HEAVE HO, most, I did say ,most, of the time, he fires right up. Warmed up- usually catch it the 2nd time over. (Yes, he does have electric, I am just too damned stubborn to use it. A pride thing I am told) And yes, I am older than the panhead.

Mine doesn't start right now, so my ritual is walking past it in the garage and swearing at it for a minute or so, then I get in the cage and get mad everytime I see a bike pass, but I still laugh at the metrics
I put my fingerless gloves on and then activate my remote starter. Then I send the ole lady out to sit on the seat to warm it as I finish my starbucks rub drink.[sm=biker2.gif][sm=biker.gif]
I don't like to accuse people of stating falsehoods (lying) on this forum but I have to take exception with this post. While I'm sure the majority of your post is absolutely accurate, if you are drinking "Starbucks" before you left home it means you made it yourself. It's not a real Starbucks drink so you are a Starbucks POSER rather than a Starbuck RUB.Send the ole lady to the Starbucks to get you a real Starbucks then you can be a RUB. [sm=bustedsign.gif]
