I don't like wave threads...but this is a good one
After all this time and you clowns STILL know nothing about waving..

Oh excuse me...air handshaking..[sm=icon_rofl.gif]
I really enjoyed your post. Your father is what I considera true biker and I agree with him totally.
Far as waving goes.... The Motorcycle Safety Foundation course I took at Tech many years ago had ateacher that was a retired motorcycle State Trooper and then went to theSheriff's department as a Motorcycle policeman. He taught us to wave. He told us, Motorcycle riders wave at one another unlike any other type of vehicledriver. Its just a way to say high and have a good day. He also said, You will see this on the highway and you should wave back to tell them to have a good day. He also said, "Never leave a fellow biker in trouble on the side of the road." Do what you must to help them get on their way.Was this part of the MSF course or was he teaching our young knowledgeable brains how to act I dont know. I think he was right in what he did just like hdtwice's father taught him.
Thanks again.
It has been through my off road biking that I've sat on bluffs over 100' high and watched eagles soar, smelled the sweet scent of pines as I rode through the forest... felt the startling brisk sweep of water hit me from crossing a creek during a cold ride... all this and more were (and still is) experienced aboard my off road bikes. Surely more than 90% of the off road miles in my 40 years of off road riding has been solo riding.
Why? Because I love it. I love the sensation of riding. I love the smells, the wind, the feeling of the atmosphere upon me. I love the feeling of freedom aboard a bike. I love the way that just a simple foray becomes an Adventure when riding.
For the past 38 years Ididn't need others to approve of it. I didn't need to "belong" to some fanciful "group" in order to feelaccepted, norhave I ever felt the need to brag about my tendency tobe a loner when it comesto me andbiking. I ride because it's one of the things I love to do and has been a part of me for nearly 4 decades.
Now, I have recently "discovered" the soul that exists within a Harley-Davidsion motocycle, and much to my (pleasant) surpise discovered many of the things I love about off road riding can also be found in cruisingbackroads aboardacruiser bike. So, no longer am I only an off road rider...I now have a new found appreciation for cruising the backroads aboard my Deuce.
Do I wave? You'd better believe I wave. Why? For the reasons penned above in the original post in this thread. Yes, I DO feel a kindred spirit with all geniune riders. If they also love to ride: I UNDERSTAND. My salute to them is a recognition of that kindred spirit that puts us on a bike. Doesn't matter if it's a crotch rocket, a "metric", even a Vespa... it's my way of offering a token of understanding and kindred spirit. It's up to the other person aboard the other bike to determine if they want recognize that or not.
And some of you Harley guys? Well... go ahead tough guy... don't wave. And while you're at it... fret and worry over what is hip and what's not within the biker/Harley culture. I really won't lose a bit of sleep over it one way or the other. I know why I ride.
However, to those that KNOW firsthand the fire that burns within to RIDE... you'll understand should you see an outstretched hand of acknowledgement from this Deuce rider.
I'll see you "riders" out there on the hiway.
