I just got back from a nice ride. The sun was out and the air was crisp.

So I went and rode down to my favorite road...Winding Way. The name fits the street well, nice tight tree lined curves rated at 25mph..which I promtly ignored of course. And as I was clipping away, throwing my light little Sportster from side to side fast on the curves and kissing the outer edges of my tires, my heart started racing faster and faster. I just knew I was riding at my peek, my best, that my skills had REALLY improved over the last year or so. I also knew that one little mistake could toss me into the trees, the gutter, or some random car.

But you know what?

That was part of the FUN of it! Knowing that it was up to me, my skills, and my daily practice that was keeping me from wrecking and alive.

And I liked it! I liked it ALOT!

Yeah I broke some laws...

Yeah I rode to fast....

Yeah, I took chances....

And I will do it again, and again, and again.

Why? Because today....I cheated death.[8D]
I don't want to pass for righteous, now.

To those who put their lives at risk needlessly, I just say
1*

It's up to you. Having fun is no crime, but wasting your life is plain stupid.
But that's just my opinion.
You may argue it's not how long you live, but how much life you manage to fit in that time, and I can respect that.
Your call.

This said, it's not just your life you endanger with reckless riding, but also the one of the poor bastard coming the other way guilty only of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
You may cheat death betting your life as much as you feel proper.
You are not entitled to bet other people's lives, though!
I say this having been on the "poor bastard" side a couple of times.

I did the "cheat death" thing the hard way...........it's no where near as much fun as it's cracked up to be

be safe out there you guys
Same here. When I was young (think about 13 or 14) I took a shortcut home from a buddies place on the snowmobile at 11 PM. Thought I knew what I was doing, but in between motorcycle season and snowmobile season, the neighbour put up a new 4 strand barbed wire fence. I hit it doing about 40. Saw it just before I hit and laid flat on the tank. Bottom 3 wires snapped, but the top stretched over the windscreen, snapped down, hit the tank, and came back up under my chin. Peeled me off like a potato skin. I remember doing a full 360 spin around the wire. Came too and knew I had to be cut. Started low and worked up. By the time I reached my chest, I was thinking I was pretty damned lucky, then I touched my face and neck. My hand came away covered in blood. Turned out I had the following:

Cut atleft temple nicking outer wall of arteryto above bridge of nose
Cut at eyebrow around orbit socket
Cut at outer corner of left eye around orbit socket to nose
Cut behind ear that nicked the outer wall of the artery and trailed up along the jawline
tothedimple
2 cuts through the left cheek that I could reach through and touch the teeth on the right side.
large cut on left side of neck nicking outer wall of jugular

I was lucky enough being raised on a ranch to keep calm. I took off my shirt, packed the wounds full of snow, and used the shirt to make a compression bandage. Then I hopped back on the sled and made a choice to run directly for the hospital rather than the house. Passed out on the way through the emergency doors from blood loss. Good thing my mother used to work at the hospital as the trauma nurses recognized me and called my parents while they were stabilizing me.

287 stitches to put me back together.

NEVER EVER want be that close again!

kolni

i love riding and i love the thrill of pushing the limits. if i didn't want to push the limits i wouldn't be riding.

cheatin death - like every day i am alive i am cheating it - just some days more than others
pusing the limits - yeh i push them

but i don't want to find the breaking point of those limits, i don't need to know when my bike will slip out from under me

and if i am reading you right - then i am hearing that you love the ride ........
the turns
the curves
the leans
the whole experience

you aren't being unneccesarily reckless - just pushing it

Be safe out there man no matter how you ride scoots are dangerous enough to many cagers, or a slight miss hap and you got problems.

That being said i lovethis saying:::::::::

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming....WOW -WHAT A RIDE!!!!

and i tell ya what i think its true you never know when the Grim Reaper will come for you. Came for my sister when she was 19, and many other family members when they were younger or mid age. So you have to live life to the fullest do the things you want.

Cause no matter what when he comes your not going to cheat him he's going to take you when hes ready.

Glad to see you finally got out of the house! My recent accident happened when I was just cruising along at the legal limit(60) on an open country road and got taken out by a left turner, no signal just pulled in front of me. First collision in 45 yrs of less than PC riding. Had picked up my share of road rash in the past from overdoing it in the twisties but nothing serious. I almost feel safer riding 99% than just putting along.

Hey Guys. Id like to share an experience i had June 22 2007. It started out a beautiful morning im out on the deck at 7:00am having a butt and a cup of jo thinking to my self gee i should take the bike to work, i dont normaly ride to work because i have to pick up my 7 year old daughterat night. I said **** on it im riding, ill just zoom home and get the truck to pick her up. So i walked over to the garage and looked at the bikes and walked past the Harley and looked in the corner and there she was, my 1983 V65 Magna. Put the key in turned it on, hit the botton and she came to life. I pulled it out hopped on and down the ave i go. I stoped at third street and if i go straight its only 8 blocks to work but i took a right and it wound up being 15 miles {lol} yes i took the long way to work. When i got to work at about 7:45anotherco-worker pulled up on his harley at the same time and we bothagreed it would be a great day for a ride. Now keep in mind it was Friday and it didnt apear that it was giong to be very busy, so i walked in the boses office and said lets go do lunch, he said its a little early for lunch its only 8:15 i said its not to early if we do lunch in Ely. TheLake SuperiorNorth shore run in Mn is some beautiful riding. He said lets go and he said grab Jim to, so we locked the doors and off we went. We startedout bygoing up the scenic Hwy and going to two Harbors it was kinda chilly going up the shore it was about 40*. We finaly got to Two Harbors and i felt like a frozen tird saying all i had on was a nylon Harley jacket and a pair of gloves. When we got there we stoped at a coffe/cookie shop and shot the breeze with a few otherguys onbikes for about an hour and decided to continue on our journey. We stoped at a Holiday station on the way out of town and filled up with gas and a few other bikes there and an old timer peeked his head out of his car "becareful theres lots of deer in these parts" im thinking to my self ive been up this road 20 times and never seen a single deer, I kind of blew him off and said we will andthenwe heaed up #2 out of Two Harbors, the further we went in land the warmer it got and im thinking to myselflife is good its a fridaythe suns out its 65* and were playing hookie form work. We were about 15 miles outside of Two Harbors and we came up on a sign road closed for bridge repair and we had to be routed around Co14 to hwy44 and back to Hwy2 it put us out about 18 miles off our path but ive been up there before and there are some nice windy ever so gradual corners and little hills so we turn on Co14 and go about 13 miles and come to the intersection of 14 and 44 and take a right im starting to remember this is the intersection of Hugos bar and about 3/4s of a mile up is a nice little hill and then it drops off kinda quick so you can actualy get your front wheel up a little bit just playing with the throttle a little. I took off and Jim and Nick are right behind me about 80 feet or so and here comes that little hill so i powered into it a little bit and every thing is feeling just right, wheel came up a couple inches and started to come back down and i started into the corner at about 65 and oh sh** there is a deer, i locked the rear wheel upand started to apply the front brake and it was to late i hit him! When i cameback to reality i was standing in front of my bikelooking at itlaying in the middle of the road there was glass, plastic, gas, and antifreeze all over the road and Jim and Nick were yelling at me and at first i didnt understand why. As i was starting to become more coherant i realized thatit was my bike laying there and theni looked at my self and my jacket, pants and shirt arejust shreded and im covered in blood and deer sh** from head to toe although the sh** wasnt mine itshould have been. The first thing i did was lit a cigarette and thanked

Hey Kolni, you got my respect man.

With all the emphasis on healthy living etc, one of these days the nursing homes will be full of people dying of nothing.

Have fun today, there is no guarantee of tomorrow!
