Default Chroming services

Has anyone had good luck with a chroming service. I'm too cheap to buy chrome levers so I'd like to see what it would cost to have them chromed by a place that does it. I'm willing to send them away to have it done. I live in Massachusetts, up near Lowellso if there are any up here, please let me know.

Thanks!

Cheap isn't going to cut it with chrome. Especially now that there are a lot of places cutting corners, and the gov. regulates it pretty hard.

Cheap chrome will peel.

Your best bet would be to buy new levers. UNLESS you got a lot of stuff chromed at the same time. Otherwise it works out to be pretty close to buying 1 new of whatever you want chromed.

Ditto! Getting something chromed at a GOOD chrome shop will generally be more expensive than buying new. That process uses heavy metals (nickle and chromium) that are "heavily" regulated not to mentionthe hazardous waste created that must be disposed of. Ha - heavily... get it? All that costs the shops big $$$ that they must recover. To cutout some of that, some shops have stopped triple plating (copper/nickle/chrome) and plate the parts using chrome only. Less overhead equals cheaper prices for the customer but that corner cutting results in a thinner plating, adhesion problems, a less desirable appearance and a shorter life span.

Get your stuff powder coated. You don't have to go with black, although there's nothing wrong with that. You can get your stuff done in a metallic silver, match the color of your bike, go with a contrasting color, etc, etc, etc. There are endless color and texture possibilities with powder coat and it will far outlast chrome and liquid paint... all while being cheaper!

If you have any questions concerning powder coating let me know... I've been at it for a while.

Drag Specialties.....there are quite a few there, that aren't anywhere near as expensive as the Harley levers and will be cheaper than having a set chromed.

Guys,

thanks for all of the feedback. I think I'm going to see how the stock levers really look with the rest of the chrome control pieces. I'm doing the grips, control covers, master cylinder and clutch brackets, steel braidingall of the lines, etc. If the levers don't really cut it, I'll just buy the chrome ones from either Harley orSome othervendor.

But thanks again! I'll post some pics when the project is over

I have used a couple different places over the years, with mixed results. Now I will only useChromemasters in Nashville. Getting ready to send a set of front forksdown to them now.

when I did the front end on my yamaha, the turnaround at Chromemasters was 10 weeks. Rather than wait, I sent it to someone in Arizona and had it back in 2 weeks. After 2 years, that place is out of business, and my top tree needs redone because of thin chrome... lesson learned, I shoulda waited on Chromemasters...

I know there are other good chromers out there, I just don't feel like working my way thru the bad ones for the few things I do, would rather stick with what I know is a quality operation.

for levers, I would just buy new chromed ones, and probably not the HD brand. Many to choose from at reasonable prices.I went with Kuryakyn trigger levers on mine.
