Default Loctite Blue info?

I was bored with the weather yesterday and decided to do some work on my scoot in the garage. The temp was probably 40 in the garage, 25-30 outside-no heater.

I had wanted to install some footpegs on my engine guards so I proceeded to install the chrome hardware to my engine guards and attach the new footpegs using Loctite blue.

Later yesterday I began to wonder if I should have waited to warmer weather, wondering if the loctite would cure properly at those temps.
I am going to be p---ed off if the screws come falling out in the Spring.

Did I screw up? I hate the thought of taking everything apart and reinstall.

Since you won't be riding it for a while (I assume) you'll be fine. It'll still set just take a little longer, no biggie though.

From the Loctite spec sheet forLoctite 242 (Blue):
Cure Speed vs. Temperature
The rate of cure will depend on the temperature. The graph
below shows the breakaway strength developed with time at
different temperatures on M10 steel nuts and bolts and tested
according to ISO 10964.
% of Full Strength on Steel
Cure Time
100
75
50
25
0
1min 5min 10min 30min 1h 3h 6h 24h

Sorry, I couldn't get the graph to copy/paste. The colder the temperature, the longer it takes to cure, but it will cure. At 40 degress, Locktite 242 should cure in 24 hours. At 75 degress, it cures in about 8 hours.

Since you tightenedthem in the cold, when it warms up in the spring the metal will expand in the warmer weather and it should make them tighter.

I too hate to redo work, but I would rather do that than loose them because I was not sure of the work I had done and didn't feel like re-doing it.

Dam.....back in the day we used to rip off our girlfriends nail polish and use that to hold the fasteners....it worked just as good as the loctite, and we never gave how cold or hot it was outside a thought!!

Anything on a HD I think I'd use Blue or even RTD.

Its an anaerobic chemical.. As long as its tight, you'll be fine.. Cure time will be the only issue..
